By Invitation Only, it is possible to stay at Château de La Barre, as warmly welcomed guests of the Count & Countess de Vanssay, in their ancestral home, which has been in their family for more than 600 years.

Château de La Barre, less than 2 hours from Paris, lies secluded amidst a 100 acre private park, and is the ultimate private château for those travellers wishing to discover the heart and soul of the Loire Valley.

With precious antique furniture and vibrant designer fabrics (Guy and Marnie renovated and redecorated their family estate when they took over in 2002), it offers an elegant and serene combination of beauty, unpretentious elegance and all modern comforts. The large, fragrant garden at the foot of the XVIth century fortification walls, was planted in 2005, and offers an ideal place for a romantic picnic or evening stroll.

Guy and Marnie de Vanssay gladly assist with all sightseeing arrangements, infrastructure (English breakfast and afternoon tea are served daily, buffet suppers and Grand Siècle dinners can also be hosted in the evenings) and activities ranging from hot air balloon flights departing from the Château park to exclusive private viewings of neighboring châteaux and gardens, unopen to the public, including hosted teas and luncheons there.

Guests enjoy exclusive use of the Grand Salon drawing room, 1000 sq feet, virtually intact since it was decorated for the marriage of the Marquis de Vanssay in 1778, as well as the XVIIth century Grand Salle à Manger with it’s important burnished dresser for dinners. In addition, there is a small breakfast room with impressionist paintings, a billiard room and bar with a XIVth century monumental stone fireplace and an elegant 580 sq foot more cozy drawing room ,the Salon Rose.
A XIVth century winding staircase leads up to the bedrooms, 3 king size double rooms, 2 queen size double rooms, 2 twin rooms and 2 single rooms, all en-suite, as well as two single rooms sharing a bath with a double. An ideal sleeping arrangement for 12 to 18 guests.

On the second floor, there is a small library and Internet office.

Adjacent to the château is a self catering cottage, which offers, if need be, an extra 3 en-suite double/twin rooms, and two fully fitted kitchens.

La Maison Blanche is a jewel of a house, situated just a short walk from the centre of the elegant and lively town of Saumur, on the Loire, famous for; being the home of the French Cavalry Academy, it’s imposing 13th century Chateau and of course it’s rather excellent wines.

The house, recently completely and lovingly restored by a world renown Interior Designer, is breathtakingly beautiful and very zen. For good reason is it called La Maison Blanche. From the ornate wrought iron gates, on the quiet road, that serve as an entrance from the outside world, to the profusion of flowers that grow in the attractive courtyard garden, to the exterior limestone of the house, to the spacious and welcoming interiors. Everything, but everything is white. Whilst the attention to detail throughout, is quite breathtaking.

On the first floor there is a very large, elegant salon that is split into two areas, with four enormous and very comfortable sofas. The stunning features of the salon include; a glass tiled floor, two fireplaces and an Erard 1900 Baby Grand piano.

On the second floor, for the exercise conscious, there is a fully equipped gym.
